形態特徵

• Rhizome terete, scaly, ca. 5-6 mm in diam.; scales ovate to ovate-lanceolate, 5-8 cm long, 3-5 cm wide, apex acuminate, base amplexicual, membranaceous.
• Leaves 1, 2 or 3 per rhizome; petiole 30-45 cm long, grooved, glabrous, erect or ascending; blade oblanceolate to oblong-lanceolate, 40-50 cm long, 5-8 cm wide, apex acute to acuminate, base attenuate, decurrent to petiole, chartaceous to thinly coriaceous, entire to slightly undulate, lustrous green, sometimes spotted or speckled yellow, pale green beneath, glabrous on both surfaces or pubescent beneath.
• Flowers inconspicuous, usually close to ground, purplish; pedicel, 3-4 mm long, from rhizome; perianth campanulate to tubular-campanulate, 2-2.5 cm long, ca. 2 cm wide, mostly 8-lobed, sometimes perianth 6 or 7 lobed at apex; lobes spreading, triangular, 4-6 mm long, acute; stamens equalling perianth lobes in number, opposite segments, sessile or nearly so; anthers elongate oblong, dorsifixied; ovary broadly conical, 3-4 mm long, 5-6 mm across, 4-celled; style short, columnar; stigma expanded, peltate.
• Fruit ovoid, green to dark purple when mature; seeds several, ovoid to round, shining, 2-3 mm across.
• Hayata described three species of <i>Aspidistra</i> from Taiwan between 1912 and 1920. The differences between them are minute and it seems better to treat them as synonyms of <i>A. elatior</i> var. <i>attenuata</i>. <i>A. attenuata</i> var. <i>elatior</i> differs from var. <i>elatior</i> only by its narrower attenuate leaves and somewhat different floral characteristics.

• 台灣 : forests, 300-1,800 m, throughout the island, rather common.
• 世界 : Widely distributed in mainland China, the variety endemic to Taiwan.
